Pickers and workers in the Southern regions know only too well the ever-present dangers of wild elephants and the magnificent, endangered Bengal Tiger. These animals are frequent and unpredictable but treasured guests, considered one of the hazards of working on these mountain estates. The Southern end of the Western Ghats is dotted with wildlife reserves and hundreds of thousands of small coffee farms. Images of both the tiger and the Asian elephant have graced coffee sacks from this region for many years.
